A California "Personhood Begins at Moment of Conception" Initiative" (#11-0041) was approved for circulation in California as a contender for the November 6, 2012 ballot.

Its sponsors, however, did not submit any signatures to election officials by the deadline.

If the initiative had qualified for the ballot and been approved by the state's voters, it would have:

  • Defined 'person' as including "all living human beings from the beginning of their biological development as human organisms, for purposes of state constitutional protections of due process and equal protection."
  • Eliminated state constitutional protections of due process and equal protection for non-biological entities, such as corporations.
